Obituary

Sheila Clerkin (nee Colleran), loving mother,sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her home in Chicago on April 10, 2022 at the age of 83.  Sheila was born in Evanston at St. Francis Hospital on January 22, 1939 to Bernard J. Colleran and Laura Elizabeth Hartigan.  She attended St. Ignatius elementary school and St. Scholastica High School in Chicago.  She then went on to attend St. Elizabeth nursing school, and was a registered nurse for more than forty years.  After many years as a hospital nurse, she ended her career working for Travelers and Metropolitan Life Insurance Companies.  She was a dedicated member of St. Ignatius parish for a lifetime and worked with many social service organizations over the years in the neighborhood of Rogers Park which she loved dearly.  She was a compassionate nurse, listener and advocate to many throughout her life and raised three children with Jack Clerkin:  Kevin (Laura), Littleton, NH; Brian (Julie), Des Plaines, IL; and Terry, Chicago.  In addition to her sons, she is survived by her brothers Paul (Susan), Park Ridge, Philip, Kenosha, WI and sister in law Deborah Parisian.  Her grandchildren:  Ethan, Sean, Liam, Quinn, Jane, and Madeleine; great-grandson, Mason, many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.  She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Fr. James A. Colleran and Bernard M. Colleran, all of Chicago.  Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. April 19 followed by a mass at 11:00.   Both will be at St. Ignatius Church 6559 N Glenwood Ave, Chicago, IL 60626.
