Antoinette (Toni) R. Caruso, age 81 of Gilbert, Arizona, peacefully passed away at home, on Tuesday, September 12th, 2017, surrounded by her immediate family. She was also blessed to have many of her extended family visit over the last couple of weeks. This brought great comfort to her last days. She was the daughter of Herbert and Josephine Riske, born on October 29th, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois. The things that she treasured most in life, in addition to her family and the Catholic Mass, was teaching, saying the Rosary, and crossword puzzles. She earned a Master's Degree in Biology, and then became a fourth grade school teacher. She took a break from teaching to raise a family, and then she returned to teaching where she taught English as a second language for 26 years. She also attended daily Mass performing as Lector/ Cantor for years. She prayed the Rosary daily with residents at Westwood Manor and Glen Crest Nursing homes for 27 years and Buckingham Pavilion for 6 years. As part of her lifelong service to her community she was a Blue Army Member/ Co-Director for 10 years at Sacristan for 25 years, Lector and Cantor  at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, in Chicago. At St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church after she moved to Arizona in 2009, she was a Sacristan for 3 years and continued her Rosary daily with residents at Sunrise Nursing home for 5 years. She also, belonged to and contributed to a great number of organizations, helping those in need, causes she believed in, and religious orders such as Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, and The Carmelite Sisters. She donated thousands of scapulars and rosaries that she personally hand-made for over 35 years. She lived very simply and frugally. The only thing she wanted over the last several years was for us to pray for her. Even as her health deteriorated over the last year, she continued to attend Mass daily, pray the rosary, and supported those organizations she believed in. Her dying wish was to die with her family around her praying the Rosary. Fortunately, we were able to sit and pray the rosary with her on her last days. Former wife of the late Philip Caruso. She is survived by her sister Marian Dahldorf. Her children: Gina, Ross, Guy, Brian, Bret. Her grandchildren: Cesar, Samantha, Roberta, Bella, Gracie and Mia. Her great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Damien. There will be a Viewing and Vigil followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Gilbert, Arizona beginning at 9:30am on Tuesday, September 19th, 2017.
